June 6, 2006 - Albertsons Announces New Strategy to Better Meet Needs of Shoppers in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma Fort Worth, Texas

To better meet the needs of shoppers, Albertsons announced a new business strategy today which focuses on its base of 158 solidly performing stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth division which includes the states of Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. While Albertsons will continue to invest in these 158 stores, it will close 30 under-performing stores in the region. The stores identified have been unprofitable for several years and while they comprise 16% of Albertsons’ stores in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana today, they have only accounted for 9% of sales over the past year. “Concentrating our resources on a base of solidly performing stores will allow Albertsons to be more competitive and better serve the community,” explained William Emmons, President of Albertsons Dallas/Fort Worth division. “This new business strategy will enable us to provide our shoppers better value and an enhanced shopping experience.” Impacted associates were notified this morning and will continue to work during the store closing process. Albertsons is working diligently to place those associates in nearby stores. All 30 impacted stores will close by early August.
