Medications Need an Annual “Check Up” just as much as People Do
Pharmacists are a crucial part of a person’s healthcare team, playing a critical role in reducing harmful drug interactions

PHOENIX, Arizona - Adverse drug events result in more than 770,000 injuries and deaths each year. What makes this number especially troubling is the fact that these errors are largely preventable. The Journal of the American Medical Association states that 66% of these adverse drug events can be reduced by properly managing one’s medications at one pharmacy.

Both prescription and over-the-counter medications can have harmful drug interactions if not monitored by a medical professional.   Common sleep aids and anti-anxiety medications, especially, can have harmful, even deadly, interactions with other prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.

It’s long been said that a person should take a list of both over-the-counter and prescription drugs to all health care visits.  This is equally as helpful when talking with a pharmacist. Not only is it their job to dispense medication, but Albertsons pharmacists can also tell patients about drug dosage, how some drugs work together, warn of possible side effects and help people avoid harmful drug interactions.  And it’s always free to talk with an Albertsons pharmacist.

To help facilitate this “check-up,” Albertson’s pharmacy is giving away free Medication Recorder Pocket Pals to help people track their prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.

Stop by the pharmacy today and see just how easy it is to transfer all your prescriptions to Albertsons and pick up a free Medication Recorder Pocket Pal.  Just Ask!
